Purpose To succeed in today’s dynamic and unpredictable business world, businesses are increasingly required to gain the trust of inform society which they operate about social environmental consequences their actions. Corporations’ claims regarding responsibility ethicality actions, however, have been shown be contradictory some degree. We define corporations’ deceitful implementation corporate (CSR) policies as pseudo-CSR. argue that it is moral characteristics individuals, i.e. employees, managers other decision-makers who ignore CSR policies, produce Design/methodology/approach This a conceptual paper. Findings The authors conceptualize gap between true pseudo-CSR on cognitive individual level “moral laxity,” resulting from organization-induced lack effort concerning development through ethical discourse, sensemaking subjectification processes. absence these processes prohibits individuals organizations constructing identities inhibit activities. Originality/value paper contributes literature by augmenting corporate-level with hitherto mostly neglected, yet significant, role bridging this gap.
